Territory licences now open across the UK and Ireland

Your town.
Your app.
Your commission.

Local Eats builds you a fully branded food ordering app and website for your area, then runs the technology, payments and support behind it. You sign up local takeaways, and you earn on every order they take.

Why this works

Takeaways don’t hate the apps. They hate the commission.

Just Eat and Uber Eats both take 30% of every order they deliver for an independent takeaway, and 13 to 14% even when the takeaway delivers it themselves.* Deliveroo will not say what it charges. Since October 2025 all three are foreign-owned, so that commission leaves the town for good. A Local Eats operator charges a fraction of it, answers the phone when a restaurant calls, and keeps the money circulating locally. That is why takeaways switch, and why their customers follow.

  • 30%the commission Just Eat and Uber Eats both publish for orders they deliver. On a £20 order, that is £6 gone*
  • You decidethe commission your platform charges. Lower than the majors, still profitable for you
  • 90+towns already running a Local Eats platform, from Paisley to Ballymena to Blackpool

* Just Eat UK partner sign-up page and Uber Eats UK merchant pricing, September 2026: 14% and 13% respectively when the takeaway delivers, 30% when the platform delivers, before VAT and admin fees. Deliveroo publishes no rate. Local Eats recommends a commission level for each new territory.

How it works

Three steps from your kitchen table to your town’s app

  1. A woman planning at her kitchen table with a notebook, laptop and mug of tea

    Claim your area

Tell us your town or postcode. If it is free, it is yours: one operator per territory, protected on our map. Most areas under 150,000 people qualify for the standard licence.

  2. A takeaway owner tapping an incoming order on a counter tablet

    We build your platform

Our design team creates a brand that sounds like your town. Then we build your iOS and Android apps, ordering website and back office. You are typically ready to launch in three to six weeks.

  3. A licensee shaking hands with a takeaway owner across the counter

You sign takeaways, we run the rest

You walk into local takeaways with a better deal than the national apps. We handle contracts, invoicing, payments and the support desk. Orders start, and you are paid every week.

What you get

Everything except the handshake

A complete food ordering business, built and supported for you. Your job is the part software cannot do: knowing your town and talking to the people who run its takeaways.

  • Your own branded apps and website

iOS and Android apps plus a desktop ordering site, with real-time order tracking, push notifications, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

  • A brand that belongs to your town

Logo, app icon, colours and marketing templates designed for your area, so it feels local because it is.

  • Contracts, invoicing and payments handled

Restaurant agreements, automated invoicing and payment processing are all run centrally. You concentrate on growing.

  • A support desk you don’t have to staff

Telephone and email support for you, your customers and your restaurants, so you never need to hire anyone.

  • Exclusive rights to your territory

One licence per area, protected on the Local Eats territory map. Nobody else can open a Local Eats platform in your patch.

  • A marketing playbook that already works

Launch campaigns and tested local promotions from towns that have already done it, ready for you to adapt.

Do the maths

What could your area earn?

Move the sliders. The maths uses a conservative estimate of what a licensee keeps on each order, and there are no monthly fees to subtract.

Barrow Eats started with 23 in its second month and lists 127 today.
A busy Friday and Saturday alone can cover this.

Illustrative, not a forecast. Figures are gross earnings before your own local marketing spend and card fees, and depend on the takeaways you sign and the orders they take. The established towns shown below took 12 to 24 months to reach their current volumes.

Straight talk

Honestly, is this for you?

We would rather tell you now than waste your time on a call. This is a real business that needs real money and real effort. It is also one that people with no experience have made work.

You’ll need

  • £5,000 for the licence. We recommend having £8,000 to £12,000 available in total, so you can market properly in your first months.
  • Local knowledge. You know your town, its takeaways and how people there behave.
  • The confidence to talk to takeaway owners. You are offering them a better deal, but you still have to walk in and say so.
  • Around 10 to 15 hours a week while you launch. Many licensees start alongside a job and scale up as orders grow.

You won’t need

  • To deliver food. Takeaways use their own drivers or the built-in delivery network integrations.
  • Technical skills. The apps, website and back office are built and maintained for you.
  • A marketing background. The playbook is written. You adapt it to your town.
  • Staff, premises or a big budget. Admin and support are run centrally as part of your licence.
Check if my area is available Takes 60 seconds. No obligation.

Not included

  • Card processing fees on orders
  • Order terminals for your takeaways, around £150 each
  • Launch offers you choose to fund
  • Your own local advertising budget
  • Your time
What it costs

One fee. Nothing hidden.

The standard licence covers areas of up to about 150,000 people. Larger territories are priced individually. Full licence terms are provided in writing before you pay anything.

A word on money. £5,000 secures your licence, but it is not the whole picture. Most successful launches spend on order terminals, launch offers and local advertising in the first few months, which is why we suggest having £8,000 to £12,000 available in total. If that is a stretch today, it may be better to wait, and we will tell you so.
  • We wrote the software ourselves. Our own app company has been building the platform in Barrow since 2016. Nothing is rebadged.
  • We ran our own town first. Barrow Eats traded for two years before we sold a single licence.
  • Institutionally backed. Growth funding from ThinCats, with financial due diligence by BHP Corporate Finance.
Questions

Before you sign for your area

Why would customers switch from Just Eat to my app?

Everyone in Barrow used Just Eat before Barrow Eats launched. Everyone in Blackpool used Just Eat before Blackpool Eats launched. Everyone in Lancaster used Just Eat before Lancaster Eats launched. You get the picture.

Because your takeaways pay far less commission, they can afford to offer exclusive deals on your platform that they simply cannot offer on the national apps. Local operators also tend to list more of the town’s takeaways than the majors do, and people like supporting a local business. Barrow Eats now lists 127 takeaways and has 68,000 registered customers.

Do I have to deliver the food myself?

No. Takeaways use their own drivers, or the platform integrates directly with delivery networks including Uber Direct, Stuart, Nash and Shipday. You never need drivers, vehicles or a delivery operation of your own.

Is this a franchise?

It is a licence. You buy the exclusive right to operate the Local Eats platform in your area under your own local brand for a one-off fee. There is no monthly platform fee and no royalty on your earnings. The full terms are provided in writing before you commit.

How do I actually make money?

You earn a commission on every order placed through your app and website. The more takeaways you sign and the more orders they take, the more you earn. Licensees are paid every week. Use the calculator above to see how the numbers move.

How long does it take to launch?

Once your licence is secured and your branding agreed, your app, website and back office are typically ready within three weeks. In practice most operators launch within three to six weeks, using that time to sign their first takeaways so there is something to order from on day one.

I’ve never run a business or worked in sales. Can I do this?

Several licensees started exactly there. Oliver, who now runs Morecambe Eats and Lancaster Eats, had never marketed online or worked in sales before his first licence. The offer you take into a takeaway is simply better than what the national apps give them, and the marketing playbook is already written.

What you do need is local knowledge, the confidence to have a conversation with a takeaway owner, and the drive to build something of your own.

What support do I get after launch?

Local Eats runs your invoicing, contracts, payment processing and a telephone and email support desk for you, your customers and your restaurants, so you never need to hire staff. You also get ongoing marketing support and the campaigns that have already worked in other Local Eats towns.

What happens after I register my interest?

We check whether your area is available, send you the brochure, and book a short introductory call. If you both want to go ahead, you choose your area, we prepare your package, and you secure your licence. There is no obligation at any point before that.
